Nerium International Review
Nerium International is a multi-level marketing company that sells skin care products. The company launched in 2011 after researchers serendipitously discovered that extracts of the Nerium oleander plant had anti-aging effects when applied to skin. That discovery helped launch the company’s flagship product: Nerium Age-Defying Night Cream. The company has grown exponentially since then and now collects hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year.
Nerium is still young enough to have a future that’s somewhat uncertain, as the company has had quite a few highs and lows in its first few years of existence. However, Nerium has just as good a chance of making it in the long run as any other MLM firm.
Nerium International Products
Nerium International offers just five products. The first two are its flagship products: Age-Defying Night Cream and Age-Defying Day Cream, although the day cream is only available as part of a combo pack with the night cream. There is also an Age-Defying Eye Serum. According to the company’s website, all three products use Nerium’s patented NAE-8 extract, which has age-defying powers.
The company also sells Firming Body Contour Cream. This also uses NAE-8 extract in conjunction with a few other ingredients to improve the tone and tightness of skin. Nerium’s final product is EHT Mind Enhancement Formula. This is a dietary supplement that boasts improved memory, focus, and alertness.
Opportunity
Nerium welcomes willing participants to partner with the company selling their products. Signing up as a Nerium distributor requires a fee between $99.95 and $999.95, but once you sign up there are a wide variety of bonuses and incentives, including the following:

The Good About Nerium International
In addition to giving distributors plenty of ways to make money, Nerium also provides its distributors with plenty of training and support. Among the list of items the company provides to each distributor is a personalized website each distributor can use to run his or her business. Nerium also provides training materials and marketing tips to help them grow their business. Also included with the startup fee is a Real Results Party Tool Kit, providing just about everything a person will need to start their own business with Nerium, which will be particularly helpful for those without previous MLM experience.
Distributors will also be selling products that Nerium claims have been put through clinical trials and been tested by independent parties. This isn’t always the case with MLM companies that sell anti-aging products, but there’s plenty of evidence to back up Nerium’s claims that its products have been tested and proven to be effective. With only five products, it seems reasonable that the company would have the resources to focus on creating quality products instead of flooding the market with inferior goods. To back up its claims that the company’s products are effective, Nerium offers customers a 30-day money-back guarantee, giving distributors reason to believe in the company’s products.
Finally, Nerium is a trustworthy company that has won awards and does a great deal to help fund charitable organizations (1). The company has been the recipient of many industry awards just in the past couple of years. It has also helped to raise over $1 million for Big Brothers Big Sisters, among several other charitable organizations it supports, making Nerium a company that tries to give back as much as it gets.
The Bad
One of the negatives that stand out with Nerium is the high sign-up cost, which is between $99.95 and $999.95. Even if you pay the lowest amount possible, the startup fee is a substantial amount of money for most people, even with all the support the company gives to distributors. On top of that, there is a required auto-ship every month that runs between $80 and $150. Purchasing two or three products a month should be enough to cover the auto-shipment quota, but the combination of that and the high startup cost could drive away distributors just looking for a part-time venture.
Nerium has also had a problem with regard to receiving a high volume of complaints. Just in the last year, the company has received close to 200 complaints, with over half of them being related to the company’s products or services. In March 2016, Nerium lost its accreditation with the Better Business Bureau and had its grade with the agency switched to an F. The BBB says this was due to the company’s failure to address the underlying cause of many of the complaints filed against it. Obviously, this is a huge issue for Nerium. It’s only thing for an MLM firm to not seek accreditation, but it’s another to have it and then lose it.
Perhaps most distressing is the fact that some of the complaints have been regarding side effects of the company’s products, including skin irritation, rash, and the burning of the skin. To be fair, Nerium has cooperated with the BBB on these types of complaints and shown them independent studies that did not reveal any negative side effects. The company has also set up a helpline for customers who have adverse reactions. Nevertheless, the volume of complaints the company has received, specifically regarding product side effects, is a huge red flag.
Recap
The compensation plan, incentives, and support that Nerium offers its distributors is more than enough to make it an intriguing opportunity. The financial commitment is substantial, but someone who is willing to work hard and give MLM their best effort has a shot at success, even if they don’t have previous experience in the industry.
However, only those on board with the company’s products should consider joining Nerium. The sheer volume of complaints and the threat of side effects from the company’s products are more than enough to worry someone. Between those complaints and the company still being young and unproven, you should only join Nerium if you are absolutely sure it’s the right opportunity for you, as there is a fair amount of risk involved.
